First Impressions
This book is another one of the many textbook cookbooks I have used in my culinary classes although this one stood out to me. This book is full of recipes that do not end on the ingredient list. Well written and labeled recipes making it quick and easy to find something that fits diet restrictions and personal preference.
Recipes Tested
Twice Baked Potatoes — This recipe was flavor packed and customizable with different combinations of toppings you can use to make the potatoes your own. These potatoes are pleasing to the eyes as well as the taste buds. Baking these potatoes twice make a world of difference as compared to adding cheese to a hot potato, the potato was creamy and flavor packed and the cheese baked on top added a nice stretchy texture.
Spanish Tortilla —Takes eggs up a notch in flavor and a very quick and simple recipe. I made this recipe and enjoyed the simplicity yet amount of flavor packed into the dish.
Twice Baked Potatoes before I put them in the oven for the final bake
Batter Fried Vegetables— This recipe is another example of customizable but informative providing all the information on how to cook and season but giving you creativity to choose the veggies.
Pros
This book has color coded labeling that is amazing for people with special diets as it makes it very quick to spot GF, V… labels!
The book is split into sections which helps quickly locate types of recipes
Recipes are clearly written
Details are given in instructions and types of ingredients.
There are pages on how to use specific vegetables for example mushrooms. I found a page that breaks down the types of mushrooms and how to use them.
Cons
There could have been more photography in this book
Personal Review:
I opened this book and every page seemed to jump out with helpful information many ideas I had never thought of. This book is just bursting with tips, recipes, instructions and more. I have loved trying the recipes and pouring over the book as my mouth waters from the recipes inside. This book is so fun if you love customizing your recipes as well! I love to add a personal touch to my recipes and this book makes it possible. Recipes do not stop in one culture in this book. I have seen Asian, Hispanic, American, and many more types of Cuisines in this book and they are very close to the represented culture foods. Having come from a South American Country this past year, I can testify that the plantain recipe is exactly as it is made in South America in this book! Anyways, to summarize this book is something that you can not seem to put down! I would recommend buying!
Helpful blocks in the book with teaching tips
Final Thoughts
This book is not expenisive and gives many yummy easy to read recipes to try. It encourages vegetables which should be a big part of the daily diet which is amazing. I would reccomend this book to any type of cook new or experienced.
